Roscommon GAA is the organisation responsible for the promotion of Gaelic Games and Irish Culture in County Roscommon, Ireland.
It is an amateur, volunteer-driven body and a group of 15 volunteers are elected to serve on the Executive Committee, which handles the day-to-day activities.
The organisation provides games and cultural activities for players from Under 6 to adult level and also fields representative teams which compete against teams from other counties.
Club Rossie is a volunteer sub-committee of the county executive and serves as the commercial and fundraising arm of Roscommon GAA. Club Rossie was established in 2014 with the primary purpose of generating revenue to support the growth and development of Gaelic Games in County Roscommon.
Our income comes from Membership Sales, Merchandise, Event Tickets, Sponsorship and various fundraising events, such as this draw. Since its foundation, the committee has raised approximately €4,400,000 with the money going towards the provision of activities at club and county level as well as the development of facilities.
In September 2018, Roscommon GAA and Club Rossie launched our first major fundraiser and offered one lucky person the life-changing opportunity to win a house in Dublin worth €425,000. The three Bedroom, end-of-terrace home at Royal Canal Park, Ashtown, Dublin 15 was developed by one of Ireland’s leading Home Builders, Ballymore. The Draw took place on December 30th 2018 and the winner was Kumar Gangah from Dublin.
The coverage gained by the draw, which was the biggest of its kind in Ireland at the time, led to several sporting bodies launching similar draws, so when it came to our next fundraiser we knew we’d have to do something bigger and better.
Launched in December 2019 “Win a Home in London” offered a two-bedroom apartment worth €815,000 (£695,000) as the top prize. Developed by Ballymore the apartment was located in one of London’s most culturally rich new neighbourhoods, London City Island and the draw gained global attention. The Draw took place on December 30th 2020 and the winner was Mary Dinnegan, from County Longford
A contribution from the proceeds was made to our charity partners; €35,000 to the London Irish Centre in Camden and a total of €20,000 to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
The funds raised from these draws put Roscommon GAA in a strong financial position for future development projects: the refurbishment of the county GAA grounds, Dr Hyde Park, as well as the establishment of a Centre of Excellence within the county.
In the time that followed “Win a Home in London” Roscommon GAA carried out major refurbishment works at Dr. Hyde Park and secured a new site and planning permission for the Dermot Earley Centre, but Club Rossie did not rest on its laurels.
Launched in October 2024 “Win a Home in Kildare” offered a top prize of a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient home, developed by our long-term partners Ballymore, at Station Walk, Newbridge worth €360,000. The Draw took place on December 30th 2024 and and the winner was Thomas O’Brien, Ashbourne, Co. Meath
Funds raised from the draw went towards the establishment of the Dermot Earley Center of Excellence in Roscommon. Dermot Early is a highly regarded Roscommon GAA figure and also has strong ties to Kildare through his service as a Lieutenant-General in the Irish Army. In his memory we made a donation to ONE (The Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel) – the charity which provides support and advocacy for ex-service personnel of the Irish Defence Forces.
